This is the largest New Year’s charitable campaign in Ukraine. More than 700,000 Ukrainian boys and girls from family-type children’s homes and boarding schools and children who were able to defeat an illness or overcome the “trauma of war” thanks to help from Rinat Akhmetov participated in this campaign during the last five years alone.

“The help to those who need it cannot be put off until later. We were taught that children are our future, and we indeed believed in that. But that is not so. Children are our present, and we are responsible for the future, for their future,” the founder of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation said.

This year, “Rinat Akhmetov to Children!” campaign places the key emphasis on helping children participating in the campaign gain belief in themselves and in their abilities. For that purpose, the Foundation organized a whole marathon of events. For instance, Rinat Akhmetov’s goodwill ambassadors – Ukraina TV Channel celebrities – will meet with boarding school pupils on the eve of the New Year, and together, they will dream, set goals and try to find the ways to achieve these goals. All this year the ambassadors were helping children reveal their super-abilities, and now, they will help them find their super-profession. The Foundation also invited kids from family-type children’s homes to a huge Christmas Tree event in Mariupol, and the kids – the Foundation’s charges from all over Ukraine – will receive guests and New Year’s greetings from Rinat Akhmetov.

“In 2019, “Rinat Akhmetov to Children!” campaign will visit tens of thousands of boys and girls. It will come to them not just to bring best wishes. It will pay visits to inspire the kids, to dream together with them. For the key message of our campaign this year is “Every child has superpower”. This is the largest New Year’s campaign in our country, a long-lasting and uninterruptible tradition of Rinat Akhmetov’s kindness and personal participation in the fates of hundreds of thousands of children.

“The campaign was initiated by Rinat Akhmetov, and it became the first step on the way toward systemic charity. Over time, it grew into the huge same-name program of our Foundation, focused on children.

“10 years ago, for instance, Rinat Akhmetov’s idea that every child must live in a family became the basis for our project “Rinat Akhmetov to Children. No to orphanhood!”. This project changed the nationwide situation with adoption in Ukraine, and today, thousands of children are being raised in family-type children’s homes, not in boarding institutions. The Foundation itself created 41 family-type children’s homes, and thanks to the national adoption portal sirotstvy.net, some 10 thousand orphans were able to find adoptive parents,” Iryna Blazhan, Director of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation’s Projects and Programs said during the visit to the Zaretsky family-type children’s home.

his year, the Zaretsky family-type children’s home was one of the first to receive greetings under the Foundation’s campaign. Today, it raises 10 kids, and three more have already grown up and left their home to start an independent life.

The friendship between this large family and the Foundation began in 2012 in the Donetsk Oblast. Back then, a house was bought for them as part of “Rinat Akhmetov to Children!” campaign, so that as many children as possible could find the happiness of living in a loving family.

And when war came to the Donbas, the Foundation evacuated the Zaretsky family to Zaporizhia and helped them with accommodation. The Zaretsky became not just the Foundation’s friends but also active promoters of the idea of family forms of upbringing.

“We always expect guests from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation on the eve of the New Year. My husband and I decided to take children from a boarding institution after watching a Foundation’s video about orphans who need parents. And that large house in Donetsk we received in 2012 from our compatriot’s Foundation. When we were forced to flee Donetsk because of the fighting, Rinat Akhmetov again helped us. We feel his attention to us all the time, and are very grateful for his support,” Valeria Zaretska, adoptive mother, said.

Besides personal meetings with children and traditional New Year’s gifts, Rinat Akhmetov’s aid was provided as part of “Rinat Akhmetov to Children!” campaign to over 50 family-type children’s homes since 2001. Their pupils received new toys, clothes, medications, and also, psychological support and assistance with medical treatment. Rinat Akhmetov also helped family-type children’s homes with buying a house, improving living conditions, home renovation and solving domestic problems. During 19 years, 500 families received his help.

In addition, the Ukrainian benefactor provided material assistance to hospitals and boarding schools with buying equipment and medicines, and for other important purposes.

Beginning from 2018, this campaign was supplemented with a new format: motivational meetings with ambassadors, which must become a true impetus for children deprived of parental care to become successful in life. During 2019, Rinat Akhmetov’s ambassadors held four cycles of “Your Superpower” meetings with over 800 children aged between 9 and 18 years from nine boarding schools. Therefore, what kids receive as part of this campaign is not only gifts but, most importantly, support and realization of the fact that they are needed in this world.
