Since October 2013, Rinat Akhmetov's Foundation for Development of Ukraine in the framework of Stop TB in Ukraine Program has launched the third wave of the awareness-raising campaign, which aims to prevent the TB self-treatment. Advertisement encourages a responsible attitude to their health: if coughing fore over 2-3 weeks, one should see a doctor instead of using folk medicine or going to the pharmacy for drugs without a prescription. The main message is: "Do not play with your own health. Cough that lasts more than three weeks is the main TB symptom. Do not try to self-treat tuberculosis. Consult a doctor. Tuberculosis can be cured if you trust your health to professionals in time."
Rinat Akhmetov's Foundation has launched a new advocacy advertisement against tuberculosis self-treatment
Video clip (30 seconds) and audio clip (30 and 45 seconds) have been produced as a part of this awareness-raising campaign. They have been broadcast since October 2013 on Ukrainian national and regional TV channels and radio stations. In addition, the outdoor advertising has been designed to support the idea of the clips. The Internet support of this campaign will start in November 2013. Digital agency PlusOne DA developed and created the informational materials commissioned by Rinat Akhmetov's Foundation.
"The topic of advocacy advertising against TB self-treatment was chosen on purpose. According to the survey, on the one hand, the majority of Ukrainians (85%) know that one should consult a doctor in the presence of TB symptoms. However, on the other hand, one in four (25%) tend to seriously delay the visit to the doctor in the presence of symptoms. Thus, 11 % of Ukrainians are going to visit a health care facility if self-treatment does not work, 10% - if they are seriously ill and feel very bad, 3 % said that when they cough they will seek medical help in no circumstances. These data show inconsistency between the awareness and behaviour of Ukrainians when the have TB symptoms. So this advertisement is intended to change the attitude of Ukrainians to their health for a more responsible one,"- said Denis Denisenko, the Manager of Stop TB in Ukraine Program of Rinat Akhmetov's Foundation for Development of Ukraine.
Audio and video clips can be found on the website of Stop TB in Ukraine Program www.stoptb.in.ua in Gallery section. Video clip is posted on the main page as well as on Youtube.
