Is it possible that children, who have no family, could grow into successful and happy adults? In theory - yes. According to statistics foster parents are able to give an orphan a lot more love, attention and material support than orphanages or boarding schools, and that child is more likely to be happy. Therefore, today’s Ukraine has adopted a policy to ensure that the largest possible number of orphans was brought up in families. And Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation helps to implement this program in all possible ways. Our priority is a child’s interests. Always and everywhere. To make sure that a child will not become a social orphan, the Foundation is working primarily on the prevention of child abandonment, paying particular attention to single mothers and families in crisis. The primary objective of the Foundation is to keep biological families, because 90% of the 95,000 of orphans and deprived of parental care children are orphans with living parents. We try to return the children from orphanages to their biological families or relatives.
The Foundation also promotes the national adoption, opens the family-type children’s homes, provides support (including financial) to foster families. World experience shows that the residential system can be reformed, and we cooperate with foreign partners, implementing best practices from other countries. In Ukraine, we were able to unite like-minded people for solving the problem of orphanhood in the person of state bodies, public organizations, business representatives and even a football club! We truly believe in what we do, and we want every single child in this country to be warmed by a loving family.
